I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again—no dish is complete without a good sauce. And this Homemade Dijonnaise? It’s this sauce lover’s go-to secret weapon. 💁🏻‍♀️

Though its French name may sound fancy, this creamy mustard sauce is as simple as it gets—just mayo, Dijon mustard, and a hit of garlic. A quick whisk, and you’ve got a bold, tangy sauce that instantly wakes up everything it touches.

Smooth or Grainy? The Best Mustard for Dijonnaise Sauce

For classic, smooth and creamy Dijonnaise, French Dijon mustard is the way to go. It’s bold, tangy, and blends seamlessly into the mayo.

That said, I’ll often mix things up with grainy Dijon mustard (pictured). It’s still Dijon—just with whole mustard seeds for delicious pops of texture that make every bite even more interesting. My go-to brand? Maille.

Description

Dijonnaise may sound fancy, but it’s just a mustard aioli that’s ridiculously easy to make!

This 2-Minute Homemade Dijonnaise recipe comes together with just 3 pantry staples—whisk mayo, Dijon mustard, and a little garlic into a creamy sauce with a tangy punch of flavor.

Use it as a burger sauce, a dip for fries, or a zippy spread for sandwiches and brats—once you try it, you’ll want to slather it on everything!

Ingredients

  • ⅓ cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 clove garlic, finely chopped or grated
  • kosher salt and ground black pepper, to season

Instructions

  1. Prepare the dijonnaise: Combine all listed ingredients in a small bowl or jar. 2. Serve: Enjoy your dijonnaise immediately. My personal favorite pairing is drizzling dijonnaise over a grilled beer brat or using it as a quick burger sauce. It’s also a great dipping sauce for fries or roasted vegetables. Enjoy! An overhead shot of a potato wedge resting in a small bowl of dijonnaise. Notes

  • Easy recipe variations: This dijonnaise recipe is naturally vegetarian, dairy-free, and gluten-free. For a vegan-friendly dijonnaise, swap the mayonnaise with your favorite egg-free version – I love Sir Kensington’s Classic Vegan Mayo, which is made with aquafaba instead of eggs.
  • Storage: This dijonnaise will keep, stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator, for up to 1 week.
